Garbage Disposal Repair & Installation in Rialto & the Inland Empire

A disposal that hums but will not spin, trips the reset button, leaks from the bottom, or backs water into the other sink is one of the most common kitchen calls we get. Drain Edge Rooter repairs, replaces, and installs garbage disposals and clears the kitchen drain clogs that often come with them.

Garbage Disposal Not Working? Quick Troubleshooting

  1. Nothing happens at all: press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit, then check the breaker, the GFCI outlet under the sink, and the wall or air switch.
  2. Hums but does not spin: turn off power, then use the hex wrench in the socket on the bottom center of the unit and work it back and forth to free the jam. Press reset and try again.
  3. Runs but water will not drain: the clog is past the disposal in the drain line. Do not pour chemical drain cleaner into a disposal.
  4. Leaks: from the body usually means replacement; from the top or side is often a fitting we can fix.

Common Disposal Problems

  • Humming but not turning: jammed flywheel or a failing motor
  • Not running at all: tripped reset, GFCI, switch, or air switch, or a dead motor
  • Leaking from the bottom: internal seal failure, which usually means replacement
  • Leaking at the top or side: loose sink flange, dishwasher connection, or drain fitting
  • Water backing up into the other sink: a clog in the drain past the disposal

Safe Checks Before You Call

With the power off, press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit. If it hums, many disposals have a hex socket underneath that can be turned with the included wrench to free a jam. Never put your hand in the chamber and do not use chemical drain cleaners in a disposal.

Repair or Replace

Jams, wiring connections, and leaks at the flange or drain fittings are usually repairable. A unit leaking from its body or with a burned-out motor is better replaced. We help you pick the right size for your household, install it with new mounting and drain connections, and connect the dishwasher properly.
